"Royal Canal Day" Saturday 12th October

On Saturday 12th October, the Royal Canal Day is happening along the banks of Dublin's Royal Canal. It's going to be a vibrant, fun, family-friendly day along the canal.

It begins with a massive-scale clean-up along the length of the Royal Canal from the city centre all the way out to Blanchardstown, a distance of 10km! Then, in the afternoon there will be a range of events designed to highlight the history and natural beauty of the canal. The schedule:

9.45am The Big Canal Clean-up
Residents from Royal Canal Park and Rathborne will come together to clean up our section of the canal. We'll also clean any areas not cleaned by our management companies. Meet at 9.45am at the entrance to Crescent park (the park beside the canal & playground). Equipment will be provided. If possible, please let us know you will be joining us on the day by emailing rcacleanup6@gmail.com. But if you cannot let us know then just turn up on the day and we'd be delighted to see you!

We are one of many communities that will be coming out on the day to clean up the canal; let's show the others what we're made of!

2pm - Family Friendly Walk with Botanist Declan Doogue
Meet at Des Kelly Carpets at Cross Guns Bridge, Phibsboro.

2pm - Walking Tour with Historian Pat Liddy
Meet at Charleville Mall, off North Strand Road

4pm - Social cycle with Dublin Cycling Campaign
Meet at Cross Guns Bridge, Phibsboro. Bring your own bike!

The clean-up is organised by Rathborne Community Association and Royal Canal Park Community Association as part of the Royal Canal Day organised by Volunteer Ireland. For more information about the day itself contact royalcanalteam@gmail.com or (01) 8722622.

All volunteers are invited to a volunteer celebration after the clean-up, courtesy of Volunteer Ireland.
